CLAC Pension

YOW screening officers currently participate in the USW pension plan. If you switch unions, CLAC is prepared with an industry-leading pension plan for you to transition to, so that you can continue to accumulate your retirement funds.

Like the benefits plan coverage, please be aware that CLAC has been through this process before with Garda for YYC screening officers. When a switch in unions becomes effective, Garda will still be responsible for making pension contributions in the collective agreement for you. These contributions will no longer go into your current union pension plan and Garda will starts send them to a new CLAC pension plan account for you.

Please be aware that the USW cannot take away the funds in your USW pension plan account if your workplace switches unions—you have earned this money and it is yours. After a waiting period, which can last up to two years, you will have an option to transfer your USW pension funds to a personal retirement savings account (RRSP) or to your CLAC pension plan account, or you may leave your funds in your USW pension plan account and collect when you retire. It is your choice.
